Designing  a  wedding  theme  is  a  relatively  new phenomenon.  Gone  are  the days  when  a  wedding  was simply  a  wedding.  Today  most  brides  will  plan  their wedding day according to  a theme, which can vary  from a simple colour to an all out vintage affair. Either way the wedding  theme  will  motivate  and  inform  many  elements of  the  day  including  the  bridal  party  attire, venue, flowers, cakes, decorations, cars and more. A theme ties all  the  strands  of  your  day  together  to  create  a  wellcoordinated and stylish celebration.

There  are  no  rules  when  it  comes  to  a  wedding  theme. The  important  thing  is  how  the  theme  is executed.  A garden  wedding,  beach  wedding,  casual  wedding  or outdoor  wedding  are  all  location based  wedding  themes to  consider.  Mix  with  an  era  to  give  your  wedding  a vintage  or  retro  flair, but  perhaps  you’d  like  to  keep things  classic  or  sleek  and  modern.  Introduce  some colour and you’ve got yourself a wedding theme!

Your reception is the main focus of a wedding theme and your  reception  venue  should  dictate  the  best way  to decorate.  Venues  that  have  relatively  simple  décor  are best  if  you  want  to  transform  a function  room  into  a medieval  theatre  or  the  set  of  the  next  Star  Trek  movie. While grand ballrooms or historic houses can present you with a ready-made set for your celebration.

Uncomplicated  wedding  themes  that  use  colours  and motifs  are  most  common  and  can  look extremely effective.

Once  you  have  decided  on  your  first  priorities  with decorating for your theme, the smaller decisions such as the wedding favours and table centrepieces will fall easily into place. Before you finalise any aspect of your wedding, ask yourself “Does this promote my wedding theme  or  detract  from  it?”  If  in  doubt, leave  it  out!  Another  thing  to  avoid  i s  adding  too  many uneccessary  decorations  simply  because they  fit  with  your  theme.  You  want  things  to  look  simple  and uncluttered.

A  well  thought  out  and  executed  theme  creates  a  vibrant  party  atmosphere,  helping  everyone  get into the  mood.  Browse  through  dozens  of  inspiration  shoots  on  the  Modern  Wedding  Blog  for ideas and suppliers  who  can  make  them  happen!  The  colour  wheel  tool  will  also  assist  you  with  colour specific inspiration!
